Avalanche Safety Equipment
- Avalanche transceiver “beacon” (457 kHz frequency only. Must be Digital two or three antenna, we recommend and rent the Mammut/Barryvox Element)
- Avalanche probe (minimum 200cm length, Probe poles or integrated shovel handles are unacceptable)
- Collapsible shovel (metal blade essential)
Ski and Snowboard Equipment
- Backcountry Ski Boots (equipped with touring mechanisms)
- Skis with touring bindings and skins. We recommend Kästle’s FX & TX Skis, due to there light, but powerful construction. The FX line is the lightest ski with metal construction and holds an edge extremely well.
- We recommend ‘tech’ style bindings such as the PLUM guide or Dynafit models for touring specific skiing.
- Skins: lightweight mohair or synthetic skins trimmed to fit your skis.
- Poles- lightweight poles equipped with powder baskets. Fixed length or adjustable.
- Split Board with touring bindings and skins. Collapsible poles with large baskets
Personal Equipment
- Clothing for activities and standing in cold/snowy weather (no cotton). Emphasize lightweight layers. *Note that heavy ski jackets designed for lift-served skiing may not be appropriate for backcountry use
- long underwear (top and bottom)
- insulating layer (a lightweight but warm down or synthetic jacket for use at breaks)
- outer layer (wind/waterproof) A thin waterproof/breathable jacket. And venting ski pants
- Gloves: at least two pairs (on midweight pair and one heavy warm pair)
- Goggles and sunglasses
- Water Bottle and/or small thermos
- Backpack 25-40L appropriate for activity. A snow specific pack with compartments for avalanche tools is nice. Backpacks that easily carry skis or snowboard are best for ski mountaineering transitions
Glacier/Ski Mountaineering Gear
- Lightweight Harness suitable for ski mountaineering: Detachable leg loops and lack of gear racking loops are better suited to ski touring.
- Ski Crampons (harscheisen, couteaux) with lightweight carabiner
- Boot Crampons (lightweight general mountaineering crampons to fit ski boots, aluminum crampons work well for most ski applications)
- Ice Axe (General Mountaineering type: short <60cm and lightweight)
Rentals
We rent a small selection of Avalanche and Backcountry equipment. Contact us for more information -

Our passion is snow. That’s why we’ve chosen Revelstoke, BC as our home and our launching point for our ski and riding programs. Located in the Columbia Mountains between the Selkirk and Monashee Ranges, Revelstoke and the surrounding mountains are among the snowiest places in North America. In fact, Rogers Pass (the centerpiece for our backcountry skiing and splitboarding programs) consistently receives Canada’s highest annual snowfall at it’s Mt Fidelity weather station. As many seasoned riders know, it’s not simply snow quantity that makes a great backcountry destination, but rather, snow qualityand an abundance of excellent terrain. Rogers Pass not only receives abundant snowfall, but it is typically the cold and light powder that is a dream for skiers and riders.itinerary
Our days skiing in Glacier National Park and Rogers Pass typically begin by traveling to or meeting at the Rogers Pass discovery center at 8am. From there we will discuss snow and weather conditions and choose an appropriate destination (less than 5 minutes drive) for our group. All tours at Rogers Pass begin by ascending (with skins/skis or splitboard) and finish back at the car. Our days involve a minimum of 2000 ft of uphill and descent, but more typically between 3000 and 6000 ft.terrain
The Trans-Canada highway between Revelstoke and Golden B.C. splits Glacier National Park, allowing skiers and riders easy access to the crest of the Selkirk Mountains via it’s highpoint, Rogers Pass. The abundant snowfall, huge vertical relief (descents of up to 5500 ft), and easy access contribute to making Rogers Pass one of North America’s premier backcountry destinations. The pass offers everything from high alpine glaciated skiing to pillow filled tree skiing. The variety and amount of terrain is what makes ‘the pass’ such an incredible destination. Our trips and tours in Revelstoke and Rogers Pass have a strong emphasis on deep powder skiing and riding. Our Itineraries in Revelstoke are customized to your goals, ability level and your length of stay.Rates
The majority of our programs are private engagements and quoted as such. For skiing and riding, we prefer groups of no more than 5 skiers/riders to one guide. Please visit our reservations page for more information.- 1 or 2 people $500 per day
